
Proven hints and tricks on how to get rid of stains
Below we list the most frequent problem stains, together with how to remove them. Please note that each stain-removal hint only applies to the material specified for it, not to anything else at all.
Ball-point pen ink:
dissolve with alcohol, ox-gall soap or eau de cologne, wash out, treat with peroxide (obtainable from pharmacies) if necessary.

Beer:
soak in sparkling mineral water, then wash.

Blueberries:
soak in sour milk, rinse, then wash.

Blood:
Fresh stains – rub salt into the stain, wash out in cold salt water.

apply mild liquid detergent, then wash out in warm water.

chill in the refrigerator for a while, then carefully scrape it off with a clean knife, dab with turpentine, then wash.

Coffee:

Cola:
fresh stains – normal wash. Dried stains – first soak in a mild detergent, then wash.

Egg yolk:
liberally sprinkle with salt, leave to dry, brush out, dab with cold water, then wash.

Fat / sauce:
treat with a mild liquid detergent, then wash. Fresh stains – sprinkle with potato flour, leave for several hours to take effect, then brush out.

Grass:
first dab with spirit or alcohol, then wash.

Ink:

Mayonnaise:
carefully remove with the blunt edge of a clean knife, apply mild liquid detergent, then wash out with lukewarm water.

Milk:
wash at 30° C. In stubborn cases, treat with diluted liquid ammonia (obtainable from pharmacies).

Mustard:

Paint:

Perfume:

Wax:
carefully remove large droplets, then place a paper tissue or kitchen towel on top of the stain and use the tip of a warm iron to melt the wax so that it is absorbed by the paper. Keep replacing the paper. Dab any remaining discoloration with turpentine or eau de cologne.
